WHY/WHAT
The Self-Aware Leader Model
Leaders are consistently called on to reinvent and drive new ways to be better for themselves, others, and the business. Self-awareness is the leadership muscle that increases perspective on what moves need to be made next, why, and how. It creates space for you to step back, use your peripheral vision and become more informed about the work and the people doing the work. Leaders who proactively create moments of self-awareness will be more effective at anticipating reinventions needed before it’s directly asked for by others.
The Self-Aware Leader model was formally published in 2012 after 5+ years of practical usage in talent pipeline programs and a comprehensive validation of the model from studying over 700 middle managers.
The result is a proven model that defines the four core behaviors that will most influence self-awareness. Together with the three elements of reinvention, this system is focused, effective, and attainable.
The Model
The Self-Aware Leader model connects three reinventions to four validated behaviors. The reinventions focus leaders on what their next pivot is and why, and the four core behaviors focus on the activation and the how.
The Focus
Self-awareness is about slowing yourself down to speed yourself up. It’s about being deeply attentive to your surroundings so you can be informed and intentional. It’s about seeing details
